April is Donate Life Month. Living organ donors offer kidney patients the gift of life, and we need to help protect donors against unexpected harm in return for that gift. State Representative Tarah Toohil and 13 other legislators introduced Pennsylvania’s Living Donor Protection Act (HB 924) in the state legislature to help living organ donors -- people we consider heroes.
This bill would ensure that life, long-term care, and disability insurers will not discriminate against living organ donors through policy conditions, acceptance, or pricing based solely on the person’s status as a living organ donor. The bill also provides employees who are eligible for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave for living organ donation. Finally, it requires the Pennsylvania Department of Health to develop educational materials related to living organ donation.
The National Kidney Foundation, organ donors, and kidney patients across the state need you to help us make this legislation a reality. Please write your state legislators and ask them to support this bill that would protect living organ donors.
